Why is it necessary to provide a solution? Manure represents a serious environmental problem which, in the long term, may create difficulties in the production process itself, particularly if other countries are capable of introducing appropriate solutions. How? The controlled mass breeding of fly larvae with biodegradation capacities is expected to reduce the total volume of manures. The development of the larvae, which are to be produced in independent breeding chambers, will not reach the adult phase. Advantages? This is a sustainable technology based on the totally natural process of degrading organic material. It is interesting to note that, apart from reducing the volume of manure produced, the remains that are not incorporated into the larval biomass are susceptible to reuse as non-contaminating organic fertilizer. Likewise, the Project contemplates the use of larvae or pupae (following the biodegradation process) as sources of protein in aquiculture activities or as land correctors following their drying and fragmentation.
